What is Cat and Dog Laser Therapy?
We use a class IV MLS laser to perform cat and dog laser therapy treatments. This modality uses light beams which penetrate your pet’s tissues and aid in the repair of damaged cells. The process, called photobiomodulation, decreases pain and inflammation and helps to accelerate healing.
The cases for which we utilize laser therapy vary depending on the patient. We frequently use our laser to treat dogs and cats with arthritis and back, knee, hip, elbow, and shoulder problems. However, our animal hospital can also indicate laser therapy for pets with ear infections, anal gland infections, skin lesions, and more. Additionally, we may employ our therapeutic laser for post-op care to aid in the healing of surgical incisions.
Is One Laser Treatment Enough?
For dogs and cats recovering from surgery or an acute injury of the skin, one laser therapy session might be enough to speed healing and relieve discomfort. But patients with chronic pain due to arthritis or other joint problems will likely need multiple treatment sessions to get the desired results. This is because laser therapy’s effects are cumulative, and because chronic conditions of the joints cause deeper pain and damage that simply take longer to heal.
